The top 5 things that happened in round 10 of the EPL
Even if the first quarter of the new season has already passed, the Premier League may be able to boldly exclude Liverpool from the title chase at this point and limit attention to Arsenal and Man City.
Harry Kane scores again
Although The Lilywhites were a guest, they entered the game confidently with successive waves of the ball. Tottenham, though, did not break the deadlock until the 22nd minute, owing to Kane’s efforts. Before that, following Son’s shot, the Englishman blasted a dangerous header that knocked down goalie Sanchez.
Brighton had several threatening chances across the field and was not inferior to the visiting team. Caicedo raced to the ball and unleashed a long-range shot, forcing goalkeeper Lloris to save. Not long after that, skipper Dunk came close to equalizing with a high header. The two teams played tit-for-tat in the last minutes of the first half and had numerous goal chances, but neither side capitalized.
Brighton played more aggressively in the second half, with continuous waves of the ball along the flanks. The host squad, on the other hand, struggled in the final closing scenarios.
Tottenham, on the other hand, aggressively played slowly and waited for opportunities to unleash counterattacks. Kane put a smart man on the ball of his teammate in the 63rd minute before firing a shot to narrow Brighton’s goal.
Both teams created some solid opportunities late in the game, but neither took advantage of them.
Mount is getting back in form
Chelsea rushed to attack immediately after the opening whistle but was met with fierce resistance from the Wolves.
Chelsea controlled from the second half of the first half onwards, as the ball almost exclusively rolled into the Wolves’ area. After Pulisic’s dangerous cut, Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa raced in to save them in the 31st minute. Thanks to Havertz’s efforts, “The Blues” scored in extra time to break the tie.
Chelsea needed only 9 minutes in the second half to double their lead over the Wolves. Pulisic combined with Mount before breaking into the penalty area and finishing from a tight angle to knock goalkeeper Jose Sa out.
The distance was gradually reduced, and Chelsea played more lazily, but “The Blues” still had more goals. Young prodigy Broja had a solo phase in the penalty area in the 90th minute and then decisively made the score 3-0 for the Stamford Bridge squad. The club moved up to the fourth position in the standings with 16 points as a result of this success.
A 700th career club goal for Cristian Ronaldo
Cristiano Ronaldo, 37, became the first individual to surpass 700 club goals with the clinching goal against Everton.
Ronaldo set a record at Real Madrid by scoring 450 goals in 438 games. He scored 101 goals in 134 games for Juventus. The Portuguese striker scored 144 goals in 340 games for Manchester United over two seasons. Ronaldo scored 700 goals in 943 games, an average of 0.74 goals per game.
Ronaldo also extended his lead over Messi in the battle to become the all-time top scorer. He is at the top with 817 goals, 36 more than the PSG superstar.
He also has 21 straight seasons of scoring in a national championship that finished in the Top 5 in Europe. However, when Ryan Giggs and Francesco Totti have both scored in 23 straight seasons, this is not a record.
Ronaldo will have the potential to extend his record when he plays against Omonia Nicosia at Old Trafford in the fourth round of the Europa League group stage.
Arsenal is back at the top of the Premier League table
Arsenal defeated Liverpool 3-2 in the most entertaining encounter of the Premier League’s 10th round, retaking the lead from Manchester City.
Before the encounter against Liverpool, Arsenal had gone 6 consecutive games (almost 10 hours) without scoring in any competition. All historical statistics, however, become irrelevant when Arsenal is cruising with 7 victories after the first eight rounds while Liverpool is fighting for every single point to get out of the middle group.
Both have comparable chances, but Liverpool’s attempts are more repetitive, relying primarily on the breakaway ability of Luis Diaz or Mohammed Salah. Arsenal played bravely while mastering the game. The Liverpool defense finally made a mistake for the third time under pressure from the home team.
Arsenal defeated Liverpool to reclaim first place from Man City with 24 points, 1 point more than the rival. This was the “Gunners'” eighth victory in the Premier League after just nine matches. With only 10 points after 8 games, Liverpool is driven down to 10th place in the meantime.
